The Cloud Country is a group of people collaborating on how to reorganize our governance and economic lives to more sustainably meet the full spectrum of our human needs. This is an exercise in figuring out what, within the realm of what is currently within reach, is the best for humanity and the world. It’s about looking clearly at the research and experiments that have been done, the tech that is available, and what’s in our hearts and spirits and finding a path with heart that actually satisfies the full hierarchy of human needs.
In this series we’ll be meeting with thinkers and builders, and focusing on five areas that will help us understand the cloud country and how it will work.
- Governance: Focusing on practical, transparent, fair, and efficient ways to collaborate on sensemaking and decisions, and spreading power and accountability to 100% of the people affected by decisions.
- Economy: Creating systems that meet the human needs of Food, shelter, and Safety sustainably, and with as little work as possible, allowing people to spend their energy in personal development, healing, and fun, meeting higher order needs.
- Culture: Creating an overarching framework of safety that allows members to experience connection and community in meaningful ways that support the balance between freedom of expression and the emergence of unique and individual group cultures and traditions.
- Technology: Using and developing appropriate green technology to reduce costs and improve quality of life. This may look like automated greenhouses, active and passive solar architecture, geothermal heat pumps and software that reduces inefficiencies and labor, making the economy transparent and efficient.
- Ecology: Creating systems that honor sustainability and higher order needs like feeling good about where our food comes from.
